As the rate of hate crimes continues to increase in the U.S. and a political movement towards homogeny and fascism swells, my heart was broken thinking about the prospect of losing those you love most---or yourself becoming a target. This song was written while watching footage from Charlottesville's Unite the Right rally where gatherers screamed racist and queerphobic epithets at counter-protesters. The alt-right rally culminated in a white supremacist driving a car into a crowd of BIPOC and anti-racist activists, injuring dozens and murdering Heather Heyer. The song is also inspired by being confronted with my own privilege in interracial and queer relationships.
